Accepting these terms
By using Panum you accept these terms. If you don't accept them, please don't use Panum. We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app before it applies, and continuing to use Panum after that means you accept the new terms. If you have paid for the Expert version and a change significantly disadvantages you, you can cancel and we will refund the part of your payment that covers the time you have not yet used.
What Panum is, and is not
Panum is a virtual patient for education and training in eye-movement, lid and pupil examination. The patient is entirely synthetic. Panum is not a medical device, does not diagnose anything, gives no medical advice, and must not be used to make decisions about real patients. Our clinical content is written and checked by a consultant ophthalmologist, but it is teaching material: always rely on your own clinical training, local guidance and supervision in practice.
Panum is for healthcare students and professionals aged 18 or over.
Free and paid versions
Some of Panum is free and needs no account. The Expert version is paid, as a yearly subscription or a one-off lifetime purchase, at the prices shown on our pricing page when you buy. A lifetime purchase gives you Expert access for as long as we provide the Expert version of Panum; it is not tied to your own lifetime. We may add, change or remove cases and features over time; we will not remove the core of what you paid for during a period you have paid for.
Payments
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller, Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle handles payment, invoicing, sales tax and VAT, and payment-related customer service, including refunds. Paddle's buyer terms apply to your purchase.
A yearly subscription renews automatically each year until you cancel. You can cancel at any time, using the link in your Paddle receipt or at paddle.net; you keep access until the end of the year you have paid for. You can ask for a full refund within 14 days of buying, and within 14 days of each yearly renewal. Our refund policy has the details.
Your account and your information
To buy or use the Expert version, you sign in with Apple or Google. Your access is personal: please don't share your account. Licences for a cohort, a course or an institution are available by separate agreement.
How we handle your information is set out in our privacy notice.
Using Panum fairly
You may use Panum for your own learning, and show it while you teach. You must not:
- copy, record for redistribution, resell or republish Panum or its content;
- reverse engineer it, scrape it, or use it to build a competing product;
- use it unlawfully, for fraud or spam, or in a way that infringes anyone's rights;
- try to get round its access controls or interfere with its security or running;
- enter information about real patients.
Who owns Panum
Panum, its software, images, cases and text, and the Panum name and logo, belong to Iain Livingstone. These terms give you a personal, non-transferable right to use Panum; they don't transfer any ownership to you.
No guarantee of uninterrupted service
We work to keep Panum available and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free, or work on every device or network. Some NHS networks block new web addresses; if panum.app is blocked, use the alternative address we give.
Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't legally be limited, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer, including your rights if digital content is faulty or not as described. Otherwise, because Panum is a teaching tool, we are not responsible for decisions made about real patients, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Suspending or ending access
We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if payment fails, or if there is a security or fraud risk. Where it's reasonable, we will tell you first. You can stop using Panum, and ask us to delete your account, at any time.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and the courts of Scotland deal with any dispute. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring a claim in your local courts. Wherever you live, you keep the consumer protections of the law where you live.
